A pack of 8 traditional Christmas cards, each featuring 'The Star Of Bethlehem' by Sir Edward Burne-Jones. The Star of Bethlehem shows a scene described in St Matthew’s Gospel in the Bible. Wise men from the east had learned by prophecy of the birth of a king. A miraculous star guided them to the baby Jesus as he lay in the stable at Bethlehem. His mother, Mary, and his father, Joseph, watch over him. The wise men are shown as kings of three different levels. This is a tradition in Christian art, symbolising the spread of the Christian faith throughout the world. Burne-Jones represents the star which led them to the stable as a glowing light held in the hands of an angel. The Star of Bethlehem is probably the largest watercolour in the world!
